TREKKING

LAGO VERDE (GREEN LAKE).

Coming to the Bokki and not going to see Lago Verde is like going to Rome and not seeing St. Peter’s. Unfortunately this is true also for the thousands of tourists who visit Bardonecchia in summer. The consequence is that this enchanting site is normally under siege from loud families with rampaging children, also due to the easiness and brevity of the route. To be able to appreciate Lago Verde in all its beauty in the peace and quiet of the mountains, it is thus necessary to choose your timing well, avoiding the hours in the middle of the day.

The itinerary starts from the 3rd Refuge of the Alpine soldiers in Valle Stretta and follows the same indications that lead to Monte Thabor. After twenty minutes’ walking you arrive at a fork where a sign points to the right. After crossing a bridge, there is a ramp of twenty or thirty metres on a steep slope, at the end of which begins the descent to the dell of Lago Verde, that can be reached in five minutes. The sight is of indescribable beauty. The basin is silently filled by an underground aquifer. The water is always clear and crystalline and lets you see the trunks of centuries old trees on the shallow bed. The name comes from an algae that has colonised the lake giving it its characteristic fluorescent green colour.
