BICYCLE

COLLE SOMMEILLER.

From the Bokki Camping site it is necessary to go to the hamlet of Rochemolles and from there continue on an unsurfaced road as far as the Scarfiotti Refuge, near which this itinerary begins. The slope is never excessively steep and the road surface, apart from the final stretch, is compact and in good condition. Having passed the first bend you go past a barrier (0.7 km) and then a bridge (1.5 km). With a series of hairpin bends you go up rapidly. Then, after about 3.5 km, there is a short stretch sloping up a short distance from the Fond brook, at the end of which, as you meet more hairpin bends, you will see on your left a large cave. After about 5 km a short downhill stretch announces the last flat stretch of the route. After 6.5 km a short surfaced section begins. You go beyond (6.7km) the path on the right for the Galambra Refuge, Punta Sommeiller and the Forneaux Pass. With another endless series of hairpin bends, in a landscape where the vegetation has now disappeared, you reach the former Ambin Refuge and the nearby Sommeiller Lake, situated a short way from the hill of the same name. The road continues to the right, uphill, for another 300 metres (3020 m above sea level). For the more ambitious who wish to undertake something a little more strenuous we suggest starting from the village of Rochemolles: in this case you add 9.5 km (total 21.3 km) while the difference in altitude becomes about 1250 metres all together.
